Yell recently launched a search for the best family-run businesses in Britain, and held regional heats across the country. The awards were open to businesses which are currently run by one family member, with at least one other family member working for the business.

"The 'Best Family Business Awards' are aiming to recognise the contributions that family firms have made to their local communities," said a Yell spokeswoman.

"Judges assessed the longevity of the business, how innovative the original business concept was, how many generations the business has been going and the business' overall success."

Five family businesses were selected from each of ten regions to go forward to the national final in March, where an overall winner and ten regional winners were selected.

The Hughes family and their staff are delighted to have been awarded the title of Best Family Business for the London region, and to have been judged to be in the top five family businesses in the Country.
