The Whitechapel doorbell systems consist of a bell, bell pull, and bell assembly on a selected plaque, universal pulley bracket(s), 4m of cable and all necessary fittings and assembly instructions.
The bell is specially cast here at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry from bell metal which is then turned, polished and tuned for clarity to give each bell a clear, beautiful tone and resonance.
A coil spring of tempered steel attaches the bell to a solid brass cantilever mechanism, all of which is mounted onto a plaque of Oak (light or dark) or Mahogany. The plaque is approximately 17cm square and the bell is 8.5cm in diameter.
Operation of the bell is from the outside of the house via a bell pull. The patterns available - see A to D - are suitable for different styles of architecture. The vertical bell pulls range from plain to ornate ironwork, through to solid brass.
Two styles of horizontal pull are available. The 'Visitors' bell pull is cast in bronze and fits on the outside wall of your house. The alternative is a plain 'Brass Plate' pull designed for houses where a pull on the doorframe is more suitable.
All of the above systems use a special stainless steel cable to operate the bell pull through to the bell. Corners and changes of direction are easily dealt with using solid brass pulley brackets.
The systems are easy to install and are supplied with complete fitting instructions. Each bell pull system is hand made for us by a company in the West Country.
