 WHITECHAPEL BELL FOUNDRY A Short History Printed on glossy paper, this newly produced booklet (2011, cover shown above), gives a detailed history of the foundry, a complete listing of our master founders since 1420, and describes in general terms the principles of bellfounding, tuning, and how bells are hung and rung. Its many colour illustrations include reproductions of old woodcuts and paintings, photos of bells being cast, and a dramatic sequence of pictures showing the repair of a wrought-iron clapper by a process known as fire-welding.
